What a ridiculously bizarre situation to have to be in!
Before ever moving into this apartment, which is the upstairs of a single-family home, I informed the landlord of our disabilities and the need for emotional support animals in accordance with ADA guidelines and the Fair Housing Law. So, they've known all along about our disabilities, and yet this still happened??
May 31st of last year, I had a cervical fusion performed to prevent me from becoming a paraplegic. The surgery was the necessary result of my difficulty in dealing with stress because of my disabilities. The symptoms I have been dealing with throughout this ordeal made me feel as though I had lost nearly every part of who I am. I fought through hell and back and had been doing so much better until a few weeks ago.
May 11, 2024, I parked in the driveway with the permission of the eldest male landlord and because of the difficulty I was having leading up to my surgery. I was later reprimanded by the female landlord because she had asked me not to use the driveway; however, she also made no attempts whatsoever to ensure I had the required accessible parking options in accordance with ADA guidelines. A sign was eventually, though also only temporarily, placed to try and prevent others from parking in the only available option to me. Mind you, this is because they have a trailer in the driveway, which they are not even using, blocking the otherwise available space for another vehicle to fit easily.
On September 9, 2024, we heard vacuuming downstairs before 7 am for the first time, and it resulted in my fiancé bolting out of bed in a panic. He is a veteran with PTSD as well as numerous other diagnoses. He politely asked the younger male's caregiver if it was necessary for her to be vacuuming that early. She responded that she was just doing as she was told. Later, when I was home alone, the elder male landlord came upstairs and told me to "Tell Greg to mind his [expletive] business what goes on downstairs." It threw me into a terrible panic attack.
On September 24, 2024, we received a retaliatory letter advising our rent would be increased, yet said nothing out of fear and complied with their demand.
For nearly 4 months, we attempted to endure the vacuuming out of fear, until it affected us to the point we couldn't any longer.
On December 30, 2024, I made a written complaint to the female landlord and ensured it was obvious this was a disability-related accommodation request. We weren't asking for much, it normally wasn't happening until after 6:30, and we were just asking for them to wait until after 7 to make a difference in our ability to quietly and peacably enjoy the apartment we have been paying them to rent.
On January 8, 2025, I had to make written complaints about both the vacuuming and the parking.
On January 15 and January 22, 2025, I had to make additional written complaints about the vacuuming.
After that, things were quiet for over 2 months, which serves as proof that it is absolutely not necessary for it to have been happening at such an ungodly hour in the first place!
March 28th resulted in another written complaint about the vacuuming.
April 8th, I had to complain about the lack of accessible parking again because a caregiver had parked where I normally do.
On April 9th, that very same caregiver was vacuuming before 7 am again. In addition to a written complaint to the female landlord, yet again, and advising her I would be filing an official complaint against them, I also attempted to explain to the caregiver that this needs to stop happening because my fiancé is a disabled veteran with PTSD. She started yelling at me that we had to move if we had a problem with it, as though it's her place to say such a thing!!
On April 10th, we received a notice to vacate by May 31st, which is obviously in retaliation for our repeated complaints because they apparently can't be bothered following the Fair Housing Law. The female and elder male landlords also harassed my fiancé at work about it, which is also against the law.
And this is all aside from us silently enduring multiple instances of the elder male landlord harassing us, treating us like we are responsible for water entering the downstairs when washing dishes or showering, when in fact we were informed by the plumber that the cause is the old pipes that need to be replaced.
There have been so many lease violations, violations of our tenant rights, and violations of federal law. We are suffering tremendously as a result of their unnecessary actions against us. We are good people, have been good tenants as evidenced by the complete lack of any complaints against us in the nearly 3 years we've lived here, and we do NOT deserve to be treated this way!
My autistic son is missing school today because he has been too stressed out with everything going on. He's distancing himself from his friends, crying himself to sleep, and having meltdowns again that had subsided for well over a year. My fiancé was offered overtime today and declined because his PTSD was triggered again this morning by vacuuming at 6:50 am! So, we are missing school and work because of their repeated unlawful behavior??
I had to reach out to my doctor the other day for medical advice because of how significant a regression in healing I have experienced as a result of their actions. I had to schedule several appointments to address my mental health because of how badly it is affecting my neck pain. Today I had to reach out again!!
Not to mention, we have been too afraid to advise them about the black mold growing somewhere behind the bathtub, since around the time this all began, or the fact that they did such a horrible job doing the tiling that the cement behind it is disintegrating, and it needs to be completely retiled. We haven't advised them of these things, one of which is toxic to us, because we fear they'll just treat us like we caused it, even though we didn't. The mold is there because they never installed proper ventilation, and the tiling is falling off because they did the work themselves instead of hiring a professional, which they informed us of.
We have done nothing to deserve all of this, and the suffering must come to an end!! Justice will be served.

Major Update - June 7, 2026
This section contains all of the updates previously posted as comments on the above-embedded Facebook post. I decided to copy them here because so much time has passed, and it is useful to have everything in one place.
Unless otherwise obvious, all of the following comments were made by me.
4/16/25 5:27 pm - Sign of heightened anxiety from all this BS: my kid died in a game and I freaked out
4/17/25 3:48 am - Woke up at 3:30am at a pain level of 10 as a direct result of the landords' repeated unlawful actions against us.
4/17/25 5:15 am - Sick again too, it's been over a week of it now and I've lost almost 10 lbs already because everything I eat goes straight through me.
4/18/25 8:37 pm - Back home resting after a trip to the ER because of how bad my neck has gotten since April 10th. I'm now back on muscle relaxers for a week.
4/21/25 2:53 am - I spent my entire Easter crying in pain. Day 4 of not even being able to start my last assignment for this class and it's due tomorrow (today).
Woke up in pain at 2am.
4/30/25 6:56 am - More vacuuming before 7... And by now they've gotten the formal complaints. Their actions are against the law!
5/6/25 - 6:58 am - Well they just can't seem to help themselves, yet another week of vacuuming before 7am even though they know by now that it's federal law and they're not exempt from it.
5/12/25 6: 52 a.m. - Again with vacuuming before they're supposed to be... they know what they're doing is against federal law, but they just keep doing it! I should have been just about done healing from neck surgery by now, but I'm not because they keep wanting to stress me out more and more and more!
5/29/25 6:51 am - Here we go again, yesterday I was denied accessible parking and this morning they're vacuuming before 7. As if I haven't had enough trouble with my health because of their constant bullshit. We asked for reasonable accomodations, this is discrimination, and I am fed the fuck up!
5/30/25 5:46 am - The longer this situation goes on, with them continuing to refuse to accommodate our disability-related requests, despite them being required by state and federal laws to accommodate, the worse my neck is becoming. Tomorrow marks a year since my major surgery, intended to fix all this. I should have been done healing by now, but instead, I can't tell that I even had surgery at this point because of the constant stress and its impact on my health. They have been doing these things to us since before I even had surgery, knowing full well what was going on and that I could not tolerate any stress.
5/30/25 7:06 am - I've said it many times since my neck issues first started that I wouldn't wish this pain and agony on even my worst enemy. Stress caused the injury and made it impossible for me to handle any amount of stress. I shouldn't be feeling this way a year after surgery; I should be done healing.
6/26/25 6:13 am - I received a follow-up questionnaire from my neck surgeon asking how I'm doing after the surgery I had over a year ago. Because of the near-constant stress we have been put through by our landlords, starting before I even had surgery, my answers were not what they should be. Like the one about work - I cannot do work at all because of too much pain in my neck... I can barely get my schoolwork done sometimes! I am going into massive debt to make sure rent gets paid every month, while other bills go ignored because there isn't enough to go around. Recreational activities - I hardly do any at all because of my neck pain... I rarely see one of my best friends, that lives around the corner from us, because I am in too much pain to leave the house. The herniated disc affected the vagus nerve - the one that controls the body's stress response system. ANY amount of stress can cause a significant amount of pain. Stress has put me in very dark places that I do not want to be in, that I shouldn't be in, that I don't deserve to be in. All because someone can't accommodate reasonable disability-related requests. Even knowing that we have God and the law on our side doesn't make the pain any less.
6/26/25 6:35 am - That same friend that lives around the corner had a baby shower for her first girl and I wasn't able to go because I was in too much pain to be social. The very next day was Greg's oldest's 18th birthday party and I wasn't able to go because of the pain. Missing these major events in the lives of the people I love so much has broken my heart.
10/12/25 5:40 am - I haven't updated this in a while. I have seen minimal improvement in my symptoms and still spend most of my days trying to get my neck to calm the F down so I can do schoolwork. The fact that there has been any improvement to my symptoms is because they're finally waiting until a more reasonable time to vacuum, so Greg doesn't fly out of bed in a PTSD attack that increases my anxiety. However, that evil woman still acts like she doesn't have to ensure I have accessible parking. She has even had a friend of hers park there in my absence.
I have known the outcome of our complaint since before I clicked "Submit." She's been violating our rights as determined by the Fair Housing Act for at least a year and a half now, for no reason other than to get us to move. She's acting like what the state is deciding is whether she has to follow the law, but they don't have to decide that because they already know, like I already know, that she does have to follow the law. What they're deciding is whether she broke the law, and I have submitted plenty of proof of her doing just that. So, the investigation has been completed and we're just waiting for them to say, officially, "Yes, Connie broke the law." It shouldn't be much longer, especially with her admitting to the investigator that she does not provide accommodations, which the law requires her to do. (They have to be "reasonable," and more so than if she were the landlord of a big complex, but accessible parking and adequate addressing of disability-related noise complaints are reasonable.) Even after I made it very clear to her that she IS required to provide reasonable accommodations in accordance to the Fair Housing Act, she still fails to comply.
I should have been back to work over a year ago, yet still can't commit to even a part-time job because my symptoms have not improved enough, all because of that evil woman. I can tell you, we most definitely can't wait to get away from these people, but we can't afford to. We can't afford to save anything towards a new security deposit or first month's rent, and we would have to hire full-service movers because I can't help and Greg can't move all our stuff by himself. Without an income, instead I'm going into massive debt to make sure that woman gets her rent money every month. There isn't enough to get from month to month, let alone save aside to move to a new place.
Speaking of, she might have considered looking at what it is we're requesting because of her frequent and repeated law violations. The investigator had told me we could always settle out of court, but she has never approached me with an apology or offer. Instead, she just keeps making my life more miserable than I deserve for it to be.
And yet, the few times I feel up to cooking a good meal I still think "Oh, I wonder if Sheldon would want any of this." Ever since his step-dad died, he rarely has anyone visit except for the caregivers 2-3 times a day and his mother once a day. He has to be so lonely, and God knows I am, too. I often think about how things didn't have to be this way, how different they could have been or still could be. I really am far too good of a person to have to deal with their BS.
11/10/25 6:00 am - Current sentiment borrowed from a Five Finger Death Punch song: "Wake me up when this is over, I'm tired of living life like it's a dream. Please wake me up when it's all over, I'm tired of living right here in between."
11/19/25 4:25 pm - I'm really not sure what they think they're going to accomplish by having the downstairs guy's caregivers lie to a government agency for them. But the truth has been told, and justice will prevail. We have the law and God on our side.
11/25/25 5:39 am - Like, it's bad enough they didn't start terrorizing us until after learning about the status of my physical and mental health over a year and a half ago, but they still refuse to put up a sign to reserve a parking space for me despite a pending discrimination hearing over that and the vacuuming (just waiting for the date) and despite knowing how badly the stress of the situation is affecting me right now and the health risks involved with increasing that stress (for one, I always pose a fall risk that could make the hardware in my neck injure my spinal cord and stress increases that risk) and refusing to provide the reasonable accommodations the law requires her to. Not only that, but she won't even talk to me about it when here I am trying to be nice and avoid court. Idk why I was even trying, considering she is and always has been knowingly putting my health in danger... but I am done letting people use me as a doormat!
11/25/25 6:08 am - And this all seems to be because they're upset that I'm asking for accommodations when I am not "as disabled" as one of them. All the while recklessly endangering me and putting me at risk of becoming just as disabled as him, or worse... why do I even keep trying to be nice??
11/25/25 6:38 am - Lord, I pray for your protection from this evil.
11/26/25 3:52 pm - Now I keep hearing him down there slandering my good name to anyone who enters! He keeps trying to say I'm making threats, but he has no proof because I never made any. In fact, I have proof that what really happened is I continued to extend my kindness and generosity even after all of this started over a year and a half ago.
11/27/25 6:13 am - At the ER now from too much pain.
11/28/25 6:21 am - 11/I really don't understand why these people are doing this to us. I told them about my health and disability issues before this ever started. The first documented incident was when one landlord had already given verbal permission for me to use the driveway, which the law requires them to allow me to do anyway, but the other landlord revoked it in writing... despite knowing about my disability and need for accessible parking... knowing the risk involved and putting me at risk anyway...
When the investigators ask why they aren't allowing me accessible parking, their response is just "We don't provide accommodations." But they had already provided us with disability-related accommodations before we ever moved in, and the law requires that they do. Even after receiving the document stating as much, they still caused issues, knowing the risk and knowing the law.
When the investigators asked why they were still vacuuming before 7, when I asked for them to wait for disability reasons, their response was just "Well, the caregivers come twice a day and do cooking and cleaning" without being able to say why they had been vacuuming before 7 for months after I'd asked for it to stop and it could clearly have waited until later in the day.
I have had to call the cops twice now and been to the ER twice now for the unbearable muscle spasms this stress is causing. Not to mention going back to the doctors for more meds and more meds all the while... when I should have been done healing and back to work long ago. Dave keeps having to drive twice as far to make sure he can see his son. I have missed birthdays and holidays because of too much pain from the stress they are causing us.
I have tried to talk to them, but not only do they refuse to talk to me, but they have also never made such an attempt with me. I have asked, said, begged, and pleaded for them to stop doing this to us. Most of the time, the response I receive is just "K," so I assume the issue is going to go away, but it doesn't. Instead, they respond by causing more problems like lies to the caregivers or anyone who visits, telling them we are making threats. I've never made any threats, but I have proof that I have done the opposite - offered to help. And this is how my attempts at kindness and generosity have been repaid for over a year and a half now...
11/28/25 6:31 am - And all i was asking for was a sign and no vacuuming before 7. Come to find out, from the last responding officer, the law actually requires them to provide driveway access because the sign can't be enforced on a public residential street. So I was asking for less than the law required to begin with.
11/28/25 6:33 am - So, there I was trying to help them avoid following the law... and again, this is how I'm repaid?
11/28/25 6:47 am - And I guess the guy downstairs is upset that my emotional distress was audible each time my tenants rights were violated, so that just proves my emotional distress anyway.
11/28/25 9:42 am - And I guess he's upset that he overheard me telling someone, when upstairs in my own home, that he was a horrible person... but, I mean, look what they've been doing and how long I've been dealing with it
And yet, still, I allowed them to take away one of the few things that brought me any joy anymore. When Greg gave her the rent money on the first, she asked that we not feed the squirrels because they'd had a problem with them getting inside the house. He responded by telling her we had a bird feeder out here, for blue jays (my favorite bird), crows, and ravens (Greg's favorite bird and spirit animal), but we stopped refilling it even though those are our favorite birds, and it brought such joy for them, and the squirrels that inevitably came to eat from it, too. Because we didn't want to cause any trouble. Plus, where squirrels get their food has nothing to do with where they go to nest... they are opportunistic creatures - they aren't going to go through more hassle than they have to. If they got into a home of theirs previously, it wasn't because someone was feeding them. However, the one landlord was feeding them here before we ever put the bird feeder out to begin with. It could easily be said that we picked up where he left off, too.
12/31/25 2:41 am - I (don't) love how the landlord has her snow removal guy come clear the front sidewalk at 2 in the fucking morning. No one who lives here even uses that sidewalk, mind you. And now that I'm awake, I'm awake for the day. This lady needs a wake up call.
12/31/25 2:54 am - If the bitch is going to have her snow removal team come clear the front sidewalk at 2 in the fucking morning (especially given that they were already here earlier, at a much more reasonable hour), then she needs to make sure they clear around my car too. But no, anything to make our lives more difficult instead.
1/5/26 6:14 am - Oh yeah, about a month ago, the landlord (it looked more like someone else had typed it for her, though) sent an email over to the state saying that the guy downstairs wants a caregiver to live up here. But, his state insurance will only pay a friend or family member who lives with him (not, say, a trained caregiver from an agency). But I already live up here and had offered to help. Between that, and the fact that the caregivers don't really spend enough time down there as it is to substantiate a need for a live-in caregiver, it just shows they're grasping at straws trying to come up with something that will stick to get us out of here, all the while refusing to accept that the reason for my complaint was not because they asked us to move, but rather because of all the shit they did for at least 11 months before that.
I sent her a settlement "request" after I saw that email, asking for a measly 5% of what I am requesting in the official complaint, and she never responded. They refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. Greg wants me to hire an attorney for a private suit to put liens on their homes, ensuring we get the money if/when they sell. At this point, I will need to do that just to alleviate the stress of dealing with this myself.
1/13/26 5:18 pm - Wow. I've been feeling like these people just think I'm not disabled for them. Today it was confirmed when they were complaining that he was born with his disability. THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME NOT DISABLED! Grrrrr these people. They ought to think real hard about their choices.
1/13/26 5:20 pm - I also now have a photo showing that 3 cars can easily fit in the driveway without anyone being blocked from getting in or out. Thanks to them for that one. They hand me all the evidence on a silver platter, even knowing the court date is pending... it makes no sense. They need to start thinking about how they can make it up to us instead of always down there conspiring against us.
1/13/26 5;53 pm - Them down there telling people that I'm not disabled enough for them just confirms that this is so very much indeed discrimination.
1/14/26 4:58 am - My brother, born with the most severe form of spina bifida, never once thought I was not disabled just because I wasn't born with something...
1/14/26 5:36 am - Him being born disabled is damn sure no excuse for them to treat me like shit and make my life a living he'll. It certainly isn't my fault I became disabled in life!
1/30/26 5:43 am - Yesterday, the guy downstairs was telling a caregiver that we're messing with the wrong person... we're not "messing with" anyone, we are advocating for ourselves because we have been deeply wronged by their discriminatory actions against us. And they have provided us with all the evidence against them we could possibly need, so there is no fear of us losing.
1/30/26 7:15 am - This was a reel I made after avoiding showing my face for months...
1/30/26 10:17 am - This morning, my physical therapist confirmed that the reason I haven't been able to heal from major surgery or rebuild strength in my neck muscles is because the stress causes them to immediately tense right back up as soon as I get them relaxed.
2/1/26 9:47 pm - I'm glad I'm not the one repeatedly and knowingly putting someone's health at risk, sometimes even laughing at the sound of their pain, all because they're "not disabled enough."
2/20/26 3:54 pm - I told her first thing this morning to make sure the snow removal guys did their job correctly because we were told when we moved in that we did not need to worry about clearing snow off the driveway. So far this snow season, when they have come to clear it, they have carefully avoided clearing anywhere near my car.
I have told her time and time again that I can't handle any more stress from them; I shouldn't have had to deal with all of this to begin with.
I reminded her when the snow removal guys arrived to make sure they did their jobs correctly. She had an hour.
Instead, I watched as they cleared a path around my car, creating an avoidance area, and put all the snow removed from said path behind my car...
Will they not be happy until I have suffered from a stroke or aneurysm? The doctors already want to perform another risky surgery because her actions have prevented my neck from healing from the last one, almost 2 years ago. Why, exactly, have I still not consulted an attorney to go after them for the max we can possibly get?? That really needs to change.
2/21/26 6:47 am - I also told her yesterday afternoon that, because she deliberately refused to ensure that the entire driveway was cleared by the snow removal team (instead, they ensured that the snow removal team blocked us in even more), which she knew would result in my disabled self being unable to get out of the driveway to pick Greg up from work, that she could pick him up. Of course, she didn't, and he had to walk home...
2/21/26 9:42pm by MistyDawn Bronner - Amber Holt sorry to hear that next time call me n see if I can get him k
2/22/26 6:49 am by Amber Holt - MistyDawn Bronner Thank's hun, I appreciate it. It's such a shame that she isn't as compassionate as your landlord. I believe they're friends, too... Your landlord went above and beyond to make sure y'all were ok, mine goes above and beyond to make sure we're not
3/3/26 6:29 am - I have been dealing with this situation with our landlord and her "son" (I don't even believe that she ever actually adopted him at this point, as she told us around the time we moved in) for almost 2 years now, and still can't make any sense of their behavior.
How does someone continue to so cruelly refuse to accommodate someone's disability-related requests after being so well-informed of the person's health issues and the direct impact stress has on them (would this be negligence or malicious intent?)? Not only that, but they laugh at my pain and then complain about me saying that they are horrible people... uh, well, that's not how good people behave, though, so...
And how can they continue to treat us so horribly after I filed a complaint with a state agency about said behavior and having the state agency inform them that yes, they do indeed have to, by law, provide us with our requested reasonable accommodations (sorry, but saying "she's not triplegic and wasn't born disabled" won't help you here... that's exactly what discrimination is, people... btw I was born with the spare rib in my neck that causes the most pain from stress... making it a likely significant contributor to the cervical disc just above it herniating to begin with, like a ticking time bomb waiting to blow...)
And then, even after all of that AND after being informed multiple times by the state agency that the law does require them to provide us with our requested accommodations, AND with the complaint moving forward to a hearing because the state agrees that their actions are discriminatory and that they asked us to move in retaliation for our continued complaints, what sense does it make that they STILL refuse to provide any accommodations? Not only that, but they refuse to even talk about things, let alone settle out-of-court...
I already have a copy of the landlords letter to the state, saying that no, they do not provide us with accommodations. That's an admission of guilt, especially when you factor in that they still do not comply. I may not be able to make sense of them, but at least when the judge calls me to make sure I'm ready to proceed, I can confidently say that I am.
3/16/26 4:31 pm - Yeah, so we get over a foot of snow and we don't have a snow blower, and so what happens? Of course, the snow removal team carefully blocks my car in even more... again... this lady needs to follow the law (fha disability discrimination) for a change. Her behavior, their behavior, is despicable. Shame on them! There's a special place in hell for people like that.
3/17/26 8:33am by Natalie Noel Stark - Just read your story and I’m sorry you had to get the surgery and hope it helps. But what is the reason you don’t look for a different rental?
3/17/26 8:55 am by Amber Holt - Natalie Noel Stark I was supposed to be able to return to work a year and a half ago, but because of the stress I have not been able to. Plus, as our landlord has previously said to intimidate us into staying, there's no way we'll ever find as good of a deal as this... we just can't afford to. Greg finally got a raise, and I may be able to get SSDI for Casey to help with living expenses, then we may be able to afford to look for another place. I wish we could get away from here... I feel trapped in an environment that is extremely toxic.
3/17/26 9:52 am by Natalie Noel Stark - Amber Holt Start looking. Just because they think there's no options, doesn't mean they don't exist. It might take a while, but you deserve a peaceful environment.
3/17/26 10:33am by Amber Holt - Natalie Noel Stark Absolutely! They can't evict us for 6 months from when the judge issues the final determination, which hasn't happened yet. But just because we have that safety net doesn't mean we can't look for alternatives. And, if we do end up moving either before that 6 months is up or before the hearing, it won't impact our case because it is for everything else that has happened and keeps happening, not for whether or not we move. If anything, if we reach that breaking point and move, it strengthens our case even more.
3/18/26 7:28 am - I was supposed to get my 6-month knee injection today, but my neck hurts too much to drive 45 minutes. It's a wonder I'm still alive after dealing with their BS for 22 months and counting... I am so tired of waking up in so much pain and hating life so much every fucking day.
3/20/26 6:52 am - So, now I find out that my landlord neglected to tell me about the notice on the water bill saying we should drink bottled water because nitrates were found in a local well... nitrates are known to cause cancer...
3/20/26 1:46 pm - Prehearing conference a month from today and I get to tell the judge I am way more ready than I ever needed or wanted to be. Could still be another 6 months from then before the actual hearing though. Ugh I just can't wait for this to be over.
3/26/26 4:19 am - I got discharged from PT and OT on Monday because the benefits they provide don't even last until I get home. My OT said that I need to come back as soon as this stressful situation is over. This proves that the situation that our landlord and her "son" (with as many lies as they've told, I doubt there was ever a legal adoption) are keeping us in is preventing me from being able to heal from the surgery I had almost 2 years ago, that I should have been done healing from almost a year ago, that I should have been able to return to work from over a year and a half ago... if only I could work, we could get away. Instead, we're trapped.
3/27/26 5:36 am - I forgot to add here that, a couple of appointments before the discharge, my OT told me to get into my surgeon's office before my already scheduled appointment. I told her I didn't want to because he is already talking about doing another risky surgery that I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HAVE!!! If these people would just STOP STRESSING ME OUT SO MUCH ALL THE TIME, then maybe I could HEAL!
Thanks for proving, over and over, that you're keeping me from being able to heal from the surgery I had almost 2 years ago, though...
3/27/26 5:32 am - So, I guess the landlord was under the false impression that this case was dismissed. No, lady, you knew there were two, I myself have referenced two. Yes, one was dismissed, but that was because it was "part of the ongoing dispute," and therefore unnecessary.
Why would the state dismiss the case, lady, if YOU already told them all they need to know for US to win? Not to mention the documentation that I, myself, have been compiling for almost 2 years now.
During the investigation for the case that IS moving forward, and for which we have a pre-hearing conference in just a few weeks now, she sent at least one letter saying "we do not provide accommodations," and the state has already sent them at least two letters saying that they have to.
So, when we got over a foot of snow dumped on us, twice in a few weeks' time, and the snow removal team suddenly decided to start blocking me in even more after I asked her to ensure they cleared the snow from behind my car because she told us we did not need to worry about snow removal down there, it just proves their pattern of discrimination because they were under the false impression that the case had been dismissed when, in fact, it had not.
Why would they dismiss it, lady? You already proved our case for us, and they know it. You also proved it is in your very nature to discriminate against the disabled. At least, those who aren't disabled enough for you, anyway. Too bad that won't hold up in court...
3/30/26 7:03 am - You know, throughout this whole ordeal, the landlord has been making up excuse after excuse for why she is (or, in some cases now, wasn't) providing the requested accommodations, all the while refusing to accept the FACT that she has no choice but to provide them... "someone is visiting me at my house across the street" or "the caregivers are there for something" or "this is an owner occupied home" make literally zero difference when it comes to her responsibility of providing our disability-related requested accommodations. "He wants a caregiver to move in upstairs" is no different because we have 3 people living in the upstairs, which is smaller than the downstairs, so there's no reason he can't have a friend or family member move in downstairs with him. Keep in mind that the state will not pay for a licensed caregiver to live with him; the state will not cover full-time aid (he would have to be moved to a nursing home for that). Plus, I previously offered to help and already live here, and they didn't ask us to move out until almost a year after this shit started... Any which way, she still has NO choice under the law. And considering her discriminatory acts against us did not start until after she knew about my health conditions... she's TRYING to cause me pain and DELIBERATELY impacting my health.
4/21/26 5:19 am - The pre-hearing conference was yesterday, and all parties agreed to attempt mediation. The hearing process is on at least a temporary hold, and it could take at least 4 months before we hear from the mediating administrative law judge. I told the judge yesterday that, because they did not even bother to respond to my settlement request, I do not have confidence in mediation working, but that I am willing to try it because he said it is faster and less stressful, and I really can't handle any more stress.
On the plus side, at least we know now that we have at least 10 months before they can kick us out of here. As the landlord has said to intimidate us into renting this place to begin with and staying after the increase in rent, we won't find a better deal than this. Unfortunately, she's right. But we have to find a way out of this toxic environment.
It occurred to me, albeit months after I heard them complaining about me not being a triplegic, that their discriminatory behavior did not start until very soon after I told them about the surgery I was to have on 5/31/24 to prevent me from becoming a paraplegic. So, it's retaliation for me having surgery to prevent me from becoming like him? Look, dude, I'm sorry for what you have been through in your life, but none of that was my fault, so stop holding it against me...
5/13/26 7:02 am - May 11, 2024, was the day all this shit started. April 20, 2026, I agree to attempt mediation. And still, yesterday, the guy downstairs is continuing to tell lies about us. I am sick of listening to it all the time, him making up stories about threats we've never made, plotting our eviction. I've already been regretting agreeing to try mediation for a while... if this goes on, I will call the court and tell them never mind, that we're taking it to court as originally planned.
5/21/26 5:31 am - So, the people who lived next to the landlord when this all started a couple of years ago were constantly blocking me from parking down by my former usual spot by the tree. I never held it against the neighbors, despite the fact that they didn't even start parking there until after I personally told them I was disabled, because it's my landlord's responsibility to ensure I have reasonable parking. I eventually found out that those neighbors had more than just the attached 1-car garage and driveway in front. In fact, they had room to park SEVEN vehicles on their property across the 3 garages and 3 driveways. They only had 4 cars, so they never had a reason to block my access to begin with.
Those neighbors moved out, and we got some new ones last summer. They also have fewer than 7 cars, though it appears they have more cars than people (including the kids). When they parked by the tree one day last fall, I decided to stop trying to accommodate my rude, disrespectful, discriminatory landlord and instead just use the driveway.
Ever since, these petty people (landlord and her kids) have been calling the cops on the new neighbors every single time that they leave one of their vehicles parked in any way that they deem inconvenient to them, now, taking advantage of the "cars have to be moved every 24 hours" ordinance we have in town. Like, the other day, apparently, they were upset that their construction people had to walk like 50 extra feet. The cop was sitting down there forever trying to figure out which car was parked "in the street" because, apparently, they didn't even bother to give sufficient information when they called it in. I just hope they realize that none of this behavior is going to influence ME to park in the street again! I am disabled, they have literally zero legal right to deny me access to the driveway, and they need to get over their petty nonsensical BS and consider trying to rectify the situation instead of constantly trying to make it worse and worse for literally everyone else.
I don't HAVE to try mediation with these people. I have already spent far more than enough time regretting agreeing to it! The present issue aside, because it really has no impact on me anyway, I still have to hear a-hole #2 downstairs making up lies about us and plotting our eviction, like on damn near a daily basis. That is a good enough reason for me to change my mind, if I do.
5/25/26 1:40 pm - We were talking with someone yesterday who works as a caregiver. She couldn't believe the caregivers for the downstairs guy had ever vacuumed that early or blocked me in the driveway because they are under strict instructions to be considerate of neighbors and aren't even allowed to use the driveway. It's always nice to obtain new and useful information!
6/1/26 4:11 pm - I just got off the phone with the DWD informing them that I no longer wish to pursue mediation after listening to the guy downstairs still complaining about the fact that I am able to walk despite the fact that I need mobility assistance to do so. All disabilities matter!!!
6/2/26 3:40 am - Oh, yeah, and he told the caregiver they were going to tell us to get out because they want someone up here they "get along with," not because he wants a caregiver living up here. They're just trying to lie and cause harm to get their way.
6/2/26 3:54 am - At least we don't actually have to worry about a successful eviction while we are involved with this ridiculously unnecessary court process.
6/2/26 3:55 am - They have to wait 6 months from when all this is over before they can even try
6/2/26 4:15 am - Those people have all watched me struggle to get the few feet from my car to the stairs, yet still have the audacity to whine about the fact that I literally have the ability to walk...
6/2/26 5:09 am - With the spasm-inducing compression I have any time I sit, I praise God that I can still be on my feet at all. I don't appreciate that being held against me.
6/2/26 5:38 am - And to think that all of these neck issues I have would be gone if these people would just leave us alone and let me heal! The 31st was 2 years since surgery and I should have been able to return to work a few MONTHS later, but these people started this shit and now, instead, I am facing the possibility of a risky surgery to try and fix what they're doing to me!
6/2/26 2:34 pm - So, after about a year of me complaining about their lies, to them, the DWD equal rights division, and here, they're going to try and say we're telling lies? Right.
6/4/26 6:13 am - I miss the elder male landlord that passed away last year. He was kind and caring and never would have let them keep treating us this way for so long.
6/4/26 6:21 am - At least I've never tried to diminish the downstairs guy's disability. I am just standing up for my rights! My disability matters too! ALL disabilities matter! His, mine, everyone's!
6/6/26 5:59 am - According to what the landlord told a friend she had over yesterday, this whole situation is just entertainment for them. There's a special place for people like them!
6/6/26 6:04 am - So I'm definitely glad I called the DWD the other day to push the case back to hearing.
Something I have not posted about on Facebook yet is my recent decline in interest or pleasure in doing things I typically enjoy. Such has been the case since all of this began over 2 years ago, but it is worth noting that I have recently stopped playing video games because I no longer enjoy them. They were my escape from reality. I loved playing Fallout 76 because I preferred the post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland to real life. Not anymore.
Facebook Comments Beginning June 9, 2026
I will keep this section current, with new comments at the bottom.
6/9/26 12:09 pm - The caregivers, lawn care people (this particular instance), and the landlord's visitors seem to like trying to block me from being able to leave.

6/9/26 12:18 pm - Whether it's deliberate or simply negligence, every single time their words, actions, or failure to act increase my stress, it is the equivalent of them knowingly and/or negligently worsening both my physical and mental health. No one else is parked in front of this house, so there was no reason whatsoever they needed to leave less than half of the driveway for me to back out, if I needed to leave.
6/17/26 5:38 am - I've been up, in pain, since 2am because our landlord and her son are entertained by hurting us. Just because I have the ability to walk does not mean I am not disabled. Abilities do not determine disabilities. Pain is NOT entertainment. ALL disabilities matter!
7/5/26 12:50 pm - So we just found out Greg and our landlord are related. Family! The things she's doing to family!
7/5/26 12:55 pm - And one of her daughters, if not our landlord herself, already knew...
7/16/26 6:19 am - So, yesterday we went to grab a bite for lunch. When we returned, the plumber was arriving because a bit of water was getting to the downstairs. By law and lease, the landlord is required to provide us with at least a 24-hour written notice before anyone enters our home. Other former tenants of hers have told us that this is just something she does as though she were entitled. If the amount of water getting in had qualified as emergent, which it did not, we would still require to be notified. They have no business having anyone enter our apartment, which we do not even have a way to secure (also against the law), when we are not here. FYI it's all the corrosion from years and years of water damage and improper care that started LONG before we ever moved in that is causing all of these incidents of water ending up downstairs. Some of the floors up here have been slightly squishy the entire time we've lived here. Remember that the landlord's son tries to falsely claim that he is the homeowner, but the landlord is the sole homeowner and if something ever happened to her, one of her financially secure daughters would take over the home ownership, not him who could not possibly afford the necessary repairs or ongoing upkeep. If he were the homeowner, I would think that prioritizing the security of the structure he lives in would be far more important than the fiber internet upgrade he recently received.
7/21/26 3:30 pm - He's still down there telling folk he owns this place when public record proves he doesn't!
7/27/26 2:19 pm - So this morning, the guy downstairs sees me hobbling around with the cane I now have no choice but to use, then this afternoon still complains about me using the driveway? It makes zero sense. Where's the logic, reason, kindness, compassion, consideration for others, or even simple willingness to compromise? I have years of medical documentation proving that stress causes me physical pain because of my PCOS, PMDD, and the arthritis that is taking over my body. I am STILL waiting to even begin to recover from the surgery I had over TWO YEARS ago when I should have been recovering after ONE YEAR! But I can't because it's just one thing after another with these people - even to the extent that I am afraid to be here (why does he need to be telling people when I'm in the bathroom or whether we're home???) or afraid to leave (who knows who will show up when we're not here - maybe the plumber but we know from a friend that our landlord likes to enter her tenants' homes when they aren't home...). When do I get a break? When do I get to relax? When do I get the chance to heal?
8/13/26 6:41 am - We had another pre-hearing conference on Monday. I'm not sure how the landlord and her son didn't realize that I pulled the case from mediation over 2 months ago after hearing repeated complaints from the son about my ability to walk. I may be able to walk, but it is with great pain and difficulty. I don't do things because I am not in pain; I do them despite the pain and in a desperate attempt for some semblance of normalcy in my life. Abilities do not determine disabilities. My ability to walk is no justification for making my life a living hell.
Greg was offered a leadership position at work and turned it down because he is already under enough stress with holding down a full time job, then having to come home and balance schoolwork and leisure time with taking care of me because, whether or not I do a single thing throughout the day, by then I am exhausted and unable to much besides sit in my recliner with my icepack. This whole situation is putting too much strain on all of us.
I have been up since about 2am because of nerve and muscle issues. I heard a clatter downstairs around 4am and wanted to see if the son was ok, but what's the point when all of my previous offers to help are ignored? Why do I care so much about helping even those who cause me so much pain and suffering? Because that's just the kind of person I am - I love everyone, even those who hate me for no good reason.
It was clear during the conference that these people don't even really understand this situation. I keep telling the landlord that I did NOT file the complaint because they asked me to move. I had already filed the complaint by then for all of these things they had been putting us through for almost a year before then. The fact that they asked us to move and have continued to pile the pain onto me ever since does not really help, either. At this point, there are over 2 years of disability discrimination incidents, and the latter half of that has also been retaliatory.
"We want a caregiver to move in up there," they say. Well, there's an empty room downstairs... plus any caregiver the state would cover who lives in the home would be a friend or family member. I have repeatedly offered to help, even recently, and I already live here. "We want someone living there we get along with." Well, maybe if you were nice to me, you'd realize how nice of a person I am and how huge a heart I have for everyone. The only reason we aren't getting along right now is that they keep causing me so much pain... because I can walk.
Now we are supposed to all sit down together and go over what evidence each other has. Maybe when that happens, they will finally realize all of the damage they have caused and take greater steps to alleviate the pain instead of causing it. Things never had to turn out this way, there's no way we can't all live in peace.
